A Total of 54 Unaccompanied Refugee Children Relocated From Greece to France

ATHENS — A total of 54 unaccompanied refugee children left Greece on Thursday for France.

France has pledge to accept over 350 unaccompanied children and families seeking asylum, who number 400 individuals in total.

According to a migration and asylum ministry announcement, France's intention was expressed and the decision was taken in early 2020, during a meeting between France's Deputy Interior Minister Laurent Nunez with Alternate Migration and Asylum Minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos in Athens.

The programme for the relocation of unaccompanied children to other European countries is implemented by the Special Secretariat for the Protection of Unaccompanied Children at the migration ministry, in coopertion with international organisations, and is funded by the European Commission.
