MINEOLA, NY – With the September 10 Democratic Primary for Nassau County District Attorney only days away, acting DA Madeline Singas has brought in more than twice as much as her primary opponent Michael Scotto, Newsday Reported.
Singas’ $107, 988 is more than twice Scotto’s $52,135, Newsday reports, the amounts the candidates amassed between July 12 and August 27, and because she collected far more money throughout the year, and spent very little of it thus far, she has a huge advantage of overall cash on hand: $807,027 to Scotto’s $12,760.
The primary, which will be held on a Thursday rather than a Tuesday, is expected to attract only about 10 percent of the county’s registered Democrats – but most are likely to turn out for Singas, based on her having gotten her message out more actively than has Scotto.
Singas, a Greek-American and native of Astoria, has been a prosecutor for over 20 years. She is a graduate of Bronx High School of Science, Barnard College at Columbia University, and Fordham University School of Law.
The primary winner will face Republican Kate Murray, Hempstead Town Supervisor, on November 3.
