Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
Τhe 7th Castellorizo International Documentary Film Festival “Beyond Borders” will open its curtain with an inspiring opening ceremony on August 21.
The film festival will take place in the island of Castellorizo from August 21 to August 28.
The opening film of this year’s event will be “Radiograph of A Family” (IDFA Awards 2020), by acclaimed director Firouzeh Khosrovani. A film of experimental cinematic form and fluid audiovisual representations, which deals with the universal core of human lives: love stories split when personal paths and individual desires no longer converge. And all this against the backdrop of the Iranian Revolution of the late 1970s.
The opening of the photographic exhibition “Attic land welcomes the refugees of ΄22”, renewed especially for the needs of the Festival, organized by the Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentaryism and Democracy, will be held, on the same day, by Most Reverend Metropolitan of Symi, Tilos, Chalkis and Castellorizo Chrysostomos, who will represent the ATHP the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at the Castellorizo International Documentary Film Festival.
The opening ceremony will close with the musical performance by I. Saia, which will be dedicated to the Hellenism of what we call the East. Smyrnaic, Rebetiko and Pontic song, they will compose a musical feast full of melodies and rhythms, reminding us that the music we have today is not only combinations of sounds and rhythms but mainly memories, feelings, memories and experiences of an entire people that for many centuries he makes his joy and his pain music, wherever he is.
Finally, a large number of officials will be present again this year from the field of Letters and Arts, the media, various embassies (of the USA, Australia, etc.) and government. Beyond Borders will be held under the patronage of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The festival is organized by the Hellenic History Foundation, in co-organization with Ecrans des Mondes (Paris) and is sponsored and/or endorsed by the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs / General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy, the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence, the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Ministry of Interior, the Hellenic Parliament, the Municipality of Megisti, the Embassy of Australia in Athens, the U.S. Embassy in Athens, the Embassy of Spain in Athens, the Czech Centre, EKOME, the Greek Film Center and ERT (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation).
