Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
BETHPAGE, N.Y. — A 79-year-old woman was killed early Friday morning in a Long Island apartment fire, police said.
Firefighters found the woman unconscious on the floor of an apartment in Bethpage around 2:20 a.m. Friday.
The woman was pronounced dead at a hospital. Her name has not been made public.
All other occupants of the Nicole Court building were safely evacuated, police said. No other injuries were reported.
Nassau County police said officers dispatched for a report of a smell of smoke determined that there was a fire in an apartment.
Hicksville firefighters forced entry into the apartment, where they then found the woman, police said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
