78-year-old Woman Found Fatally Slashed in Her Queens Home

NEW YORK (AP) — A 78-year-old woman was found dead in her bedroom in Queens with a slash wound to her head, police said.

Maria Diaz was found shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday inside her home on Hillside Avenue, a police spokesperson said. She had suffered a laceration to her head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A machete was found next to the body.

Police have made no arrests.
