Author and Loukoumi character visit William Spyropoulos School

On Thursday December 10, Nick Katsoris, Esq., creator and author of the “Loukoumi” series of books for children, visited The William Spyropoulos School of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Shrine Church of Flushing. Katsoris was met by an excited group of students in kindergarten through second grade, to whom he read Loukoumi’s Good Deeds and Loukoumi’s Gift. In addition, Loukoumi herself paid the students a visit. A book signing and a personal address by Katsoris followed a picturetaking session with Katsoris and Loukoumi and the students.

The “Loukoumi” series offers valuable lessons such as kindness towards others and doing good deeds to all children. Prior to Katsoris’ visit, the students had read the books and drawn pictures of Loukoumi, which were entered into “Make a Difference” day activities on October 24.

In 2005, Katsoris published his first “Loukoumi” book and since then has published a series of books with the character. The books feature CDs that are narrated by Greek –American celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston, Constantine Maroulis and Olympia Dukakis, as well as other notable members of the entertainment industry.

Katsoris, a New York attorney since 1995, has served as general counsel of the Red Apple Group. Katsoris is also president of the Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund and also the entertainment editor of the Hellenic Times newspaper.

First grade teacher Youla Tavantzis, along with Principal Athena Kromidas and Vice Principal Mary Tzallas, organized the event.
