Rifle Fired on Chicago Train

CHICAGO — Chicago Police Superintendent Gerry McCarthy says the man who fired on a subway train as it pulled into a business district station used an assault rifle and had at least 50 bullets with him.

McCarthy says even though the man had a valid firearms owner identification card, the weapon used in Thursday’s attack was stolen from Indiana. No one was reported injured, but the incident left passengers shaken, with some refusing to get off when the doors opened.

McCarthy said the man was targeting the train, not passengers.

The suspect was taken into custody a short time later, just a few blocks away.
