Golden Dawn Gets Own Prison Wing

ATHENS – Female prisoners being held at the high-security Korydallos Prison have complained they are going to be packed in while six Golden Dawn detainees are getting a whole wing to themselves.

The national union representing women prisoners said the government is planning a transfer of the Golden Dawn extremists, including party lawmaker Nikos Michaloliakos and other lawmakers that would give them spacious quarters and special treatment.

The union said that means 100 female prisoners would be moved into cramped quarters elsewhere and that they would be “squashed like mice.”

The union also complained about the “racist and disgusting” behavior of Golden Dawn inmates, saying that they have demanded their food be served by Greek staff.

The government is planning a trial in the autumn of all 18 Golden Dawn lawmakers who are among 73 from the party being charged with operating a criminal gang.
