Huge Gaps Remain in Cyprus Talks – Turkish Cypriots Reject CBMs

Serious difficulties in reaching convergences and initiating substantive confidence building measures has been observed in Cyprus peace talks between Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu, after Monday`s meeting in the UN protected zone in the area of the old Nicosia airport.

According to reliable sources, the response of the Turkish Cypriot side to Greek  – Cypriot`s sides proposals on confidence building measures (CBM)  does not seem to be encouraging, since the Turkish side flatly rejects the opening of the ghost town of Varosha. The Turkish side rejected the President`s proposal to for a technical committee for EU affairs, as well as investigations for missing persons in military zones with the appropriate fencing.
