5.3 Richter Scale Earthquake Felt in Capital Athens

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale was recorded shortly before 1pm on Saturday in the Corinthian Gulf, near Itea, approximately 200 km northwest of the capital Athens.

The earthquake was felt in Athens, in areas of mainland Greece and the Peloponnese.

Seismologists are monitoring the phenomenon.
