Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
NEW YORK – Petros Galatoulas garnered the most votes in elections for the Board of Directors of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, held on June 8.
The Federation consists of Hellenic-American organizations in the New York Metropolitan Area, each of which sends representatives to vote for the Board, which comprises 21 people. Up to 182 people can vote and on June 8 154 were registered.
After five days, the new board gathers to choose officers.
The top 21 vote-getters were: Petros Galatoulas, Stefanos Amanatidis, Athanasios Aronis, Timoleon Kakouros, Antonios Fokas, Vasilios Gournelos, Cleanthis Meimaroglou, Manolis Christodoulakis, Kaity Alexandropolou, George Kitsios, Demetrios Kalamaras, Dionysios Pilarinos, Stavros Zhongas, Kostas Lambrakis, Spyros Andriopoulos, Avgerini Catechi, Michael Kokolis, Vasilios Eglezos, Apostolos Trabakoulos, Costas Vases, and Gregory Demetroulakos.
The Federation promotes Hellenism through charitable and cultural events and is the organizer of the Greek Parade. Other events include lectures at venues such as Cornell Medical Center and the Federation’s Stathakion Center in Astoria, and organizes symposia on education in close cooperation with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
The successful tenure of current president Elias Tsekerides, was brought to a conclusion by term limits mandated by the constitution.
