Greek-American Killed in Canarsie Crash

BROOKLYN – Nikon Vouyiouklis, 60, was turning from Remsen Avenue onto Glenwood Road in Canarsie, Brooklyn  just before 5 AM when an Infiniti G-37 heading south on Remsen smashed into his Toyota Camry, police reported.

The Valley Stream, Long Island man died after his car was struck by an alleged drunken driver. The drivers of both care were taken to Brookdale Hospital.

According to the police report: “the operator of vehicle #1 in a 2011 Infiniti G-37 sedan was traveling southbound on Remsen Avenue when he collided with the operator of vehicle #2 in a 2010 Toyota Camry traveling northbound on Remsen Avenue attempting to make a left turn onto westbound Glenwood Rd. As a result of the collision vehicle #1 veered to the right striking a telephone pole and vehicle #2 struck 3 parked unoccupied vehicles on the west side of Remsen Ave.”

A third person was treated at the scene and Brooks, who received non-life-threatening injuries, was arrested at Brookdale. He was charged with criminally negligent homicide, vehicular manslaughter and DWI, according to police.

The investigation is being conducted by the New York City Police Department’s Collision Squad.
