ATHENS – Greece’s traditional basketball owners Panathinaikos and Olympiakos are finding it’s not easy winning at home but came away with victories in the Greek league on March 17.
Olympiakos struggled before beating Aris, 64-59 in Thessaloniki, taking away the win even without star players Vassilis Spanoulis and Giorgos Printezis.
Cellar-dweller Ilisiakos gave Panathinaikos fits at the Olympic Sports Hall before the Greens won, 83-77 in the debut of Fragiskos Alvertis on the Panathinaikos bench.
KAO Dramas beat PAOK in overtime, 90-85 but remains sixth behind surprising Nea Kifissia which beat Kolossos Rhodes 80-74.
Third-placed Panionios thrashed struggling Ikaros Halkidas, 89-54, Apollon Patras came from behind to beat Panelefsiniakos 73-66 away, and Trikala beat AGO Rethymnou, 75-63.
In women’s basketball, Elliniko won its first ever major trophy by beating Panathinaikos 57-55 in the Greek Cup final.
