If I had always known how tasty a beverage wassail is, I would have listened to the Christmas carol with much more appreciation and understanding. Thankfully there’s still time!
Christmas may be over, but the hot beverages associated with the season are still game. In fact, wassail may taste even better as a victory libation for surviving the stress and panic of the holiday. Here’s a recipe to try. Simmer on the stove, or even easier – put it together in the crock pot and have it heated and ready all day!
1 gallon fresh pressed apple cider
2 c. cranberry juice
½ c. honey
½ c. sugar
¼ c. cinnamon pear balsamic vinegar
2 oranges, sliced
10 whole cloves
2 apples, chopped
1 t. allspice
1 t. ginger
1 t. nutmeg
3 cinnamon sticks
1 c. brandy (any type – E&J is inexpensive and works just fine!)
