NEW YORK – Because its founders and officers know that gestures of thanks yield future philanthropic harvests, the Carnival of Love Foundation presented its 2nd Annual Holiday Appreciation Party for sponsors, donors and supporters at the SHI lounge on the Long Island City waterfront.
According to its website, carniovaloflove.org, “The Carnival of Love Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness to enhance the quality of life, health and well-being of children in need.”
Through unique lively and imaginative parties, the gather funds which they distribute to established organizations, including an October 6 donation of $8,000 to The Greek Children’s Fund.
Despina Manoloudas, the Foundation’s vice president, told The National Herald that for the party they also partnered with NY Cares, Winter Wishes program to grant Christmas wishes to children in underserved communities in the NYC area. “Tonight we are asking all of our supporters to grants a wish to one of the children for Christmas.”
Each guest was asked to contribute $40 to a fund that will be used to purchase gifts the children. There was a binder at the party with letters from children requesting gifts. Manoloudas said more than $5000 worth of gifts was purchased.
“We will have a wrapping party next week, put them in a nice big bag and we will go to the center in Brooklyn and distribute them,” she said.
At this time, the Foundation, led by its co-founders, Dennisia Slabakis, president and Maria Sakellis, Treasurer, is working on their plan for their big spring event, which they have already decided will take the form of a real, live carnival for children and their families.
“We will add our usual Carnival of Love flair to it and a couple of surprises.
