Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
NEW YORK – The Hellenic Film Society USA (HFS) has launched its own YouTube channel featuring engaging film shorts, interviews with talent, and other videos to keep us entertained while the coronavirus pandemic continues.
Among the videos available for viewing, an interview with Emmy Award-winning producer Celia Costas which took place last month at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria following the screening of the award-winning Greek film, Pause. The event was presented in association with New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT).
Costas is the winner of two Primetime Emmy Awards, for Angels in America and Warm Springs. Her more than 40 Hollywood credits include producer of films including The Girl on the Train, August: Osage County, and The Intern, starring Robert DeNiro and Anne Hathaway. Her current project is tick, tick…BOOM!, directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, on which she is the executive producer.
HFS also sent out recommendations for streaming films at home, including Gloria, written and directed by John Cassavetes, and starring Gena Rowlands, available on streaming services including Amazon Prime, Apple iTunes, GooglePlay, YouTube, and FandangoNow.
Kazantzakis, written and directed by Yannis Smaragdis, is available on Amazon Prime.
Maria by Callas: In Her Own Words, directed by Tom Volf is also available on Amazon Prime, DIRECTV, and iTunes.
Other films available include My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Smuggling Hendrix, Swing Away, Worlds Apart, and Z.
