Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
ATHENS – A minute’s silence in the memory of veteran leftist Manolis Glezos was observed in the Greek parliament during the meetings of the committees on economic and social affairs on Tuesday.
Party deputies who are members in the committees made brief statements.
“He represented Greek people in a dignified and noteworthy manner as a member of parliament,” said New Democracy’s Vassilis Economou, chairman of the committee on social affairs.
“Manolis Glezos was a great Greek,” said Syriza’s Nikos Pappas, “who dedicated his life to democracy, freedom and the struggles against fascism.”
KINAL’s (Movement For Change) Andreas Poulas said “he gave us lessons in honesty and actionable beliefs, and served as a great example for future generations.”
“We express our heartfelt condolences to his family on the death of the Greek resistance fighter Manolis Glezos,” said George Lambroulis of the Greek Communist Party.
Vassilis Viliardos of Greek Solution party called Glezos “a real patriot” and expressed his deep condolences to his family.
“The loss of Manolis Glezos is immense for our country. He was a great fighter who never knelt, never bowed his head, never obeyed – but fought to the end for our people,” said Fotini Bakadima of MeRA25 party and added that Glezos “will be an eternal symbol of struggle and self-denial in the face of greater good.”
In a statement, Glezos’ family said that his funeral service will attended strictly by close family members only, in line with current preventive measures against the coronavirus.
