ATHENS – The new pension system makes things worse for 90 pct of the self-employed and pensioners, main opposition SYRIZA deputy responsible for labour issues, Effie Achtsioglou, said on Thursday.

In a statement, she accused the government of trying to “muddy the waters” to hide reality and of cultivating false expectations in pensioners and the insured.

Particularly with respect to pensions, Achtsioglou noted that under the new social insurance system, the money paid out for pensions in 2020 will be less than that given in 2019. She also noted that the “13th pension has been abolished”.

Referring to social insurance contributions, she stated that “90 pct of the self-employed will pay contributions that are 20 pct higher.”
