NEW YORK – PSEKA, the International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus, President Philip Christopher on January 20 released the following statement mourning the loss of Archon Tom Kyrus.

During the forty-plus years that I have been involved in the struggle of the Greek-Cypriot people for Freedom and Justice, we had to bear the loss of friends and dedicated co-workers who died with the dream of returning to their ancestral home and seeing a free and united Cyprus.

Today, we lost a true champion of freedom, my friend, Tommy Kyrus, who immigrated from Morphou, Cyprus, and has lived the American dream. Tom, along with his beautiful wife, Elaine, have been in the forefront of our long struggle to remove from Cyprus the Turkish occupation troops.

A man of absolute integrity who refused to compromise democratic principles and Hellenic ideals and values for the sake of expediency, Tom Kyrus was a philanthropist and a humanitarian, who generally contributed to all Hellenic causes, including our church and the Cyprus Children Fund.

The Greek-Cypriot community of America expresses heartfelt condolences to his lovely wife, Elaine, his sons and his extended family in the United States and Cyprus.

Farewell my friend and may your memory be eternal.
