ATHENS – Secretary General for Family Policy and Gender Equality Maria Syrengela on Tuesday commented on the pro-life posters that had been put up on the Athens metro and referred to the legally enshrined right of every woman to abortion.

Syrengela stressed that women’s rights to abortion are unquestionable and she supported “the decision of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Kostas Karamanlis, to withdraw the specific campaign from the metro stations.”

“Information and public awareness must be based on respect, objectivity and responsibility,” she said in a statement.

The anti-abortion advertising campaign was removed from Athens’ metro system on Monday by order of Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis, after public reaction.

  1. The current low level of Greece’s birthrate points to eventual extinction of Greece as a nation–just in case any in the Family Policy and Gender Equality office care.
