The Arsenal Gunners, who hold the single best season record in the prestigious English Premier League, are fending off rivals Liverpool and Chelsea, and perennial nemesis Manchester United at this stage of the football (soccer, to us Americans) season.
As November comes to a close, Arsenal is holding on to first place by a thread over Liverpool, with upstart Southampton in third, and Chelsea and Man U rounding out the top five spots.
With a relatively easy schedule through February, the Gunners are positioning themselves to win the Premier League, a feat that has eluded them since the 2003-2004 season, when they set the record for not losing a single game all season long.
Their slogan, reflecting their stellar record, as it appeared on their merchandise, was: “You win some, you tie some.”
Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud currently lead the team in scoring, and have excited the ever-loyal fan base. Once again, the stands are filled with chants of: “ooh-t0, ooh-to-be, ooh-t0-be-a- GOONAH!”
