HAVERHILL, MA – AHEPA Acropolis Chapter 39 honored Patroklos “Pat” Saragas as their Man of the Year for 2019, WHAV 97.9 reported. Saragas is the owner of Heav’nly Donuts and was selected as Man of the Year for his dedication to the ideals of AHEPA and “his longstanding and generous support of local institutions,” WHAV reported, adding that AHEPA 39 Chapter President James Tzitzon presented him with an engraved plaque.
“Pat, this year’s recipient, was an easy choice and, honestly, the award was long overdue. Pat has supported the chapter time and again, and very quietly donated repeatedly to other local organizations without much fanfare,” Tzitzon said, WHAV reported.
Tzitzon noted that “we finally got to present Pat with this award,” WHAV reported, adding Tzitzon’s explaination that “the honor was originally scheduled earlier in the year, but due to conflicts on both the chapter and his part, the award presentation was delayed.”
Massachusetts State Sen. Diana DiZoglio “also presented Saragas with a special state citation,” WHAV reported.
AHEPA Acropolis Chapter 39 of Haverhill was founded in January 1924. As noted on its website, AHEPA, founded in 1922, is the largest Greek-American association in the world which has chapters in the United States, Canada, Greece and Cyprus, and sister chapters in Australia and New Zealand.
The members continue to raise funds and give back to the community, WHAV reported, adding that “the chapter also donated to the American Legion, Disabled Veterans, the Wounded Warrior ‘Hunt 4 Freedom’ effort and the Vietnam Memorial Fund,” among others.
