August is the month of panigyria in Greece. Due to the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of Christ, Panagia or Holy Mary (she has hundreds of names in the Orthodox Church) each corner celebrates and churches in Greece organize events with traditional music and dance, usually in the churches’ courtyard or ‘plateia’, the central area where people meet, of a village.
