Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
To the Editor:
Congratulations on the 104th anniversary of Ethnikos Kyrikas! The newspaper is an institution like no other in the Greek community. No other Greek newspaper has stood the test of time like EK. My grandfather used to read it when he first arrived from Greece. It offered a bridge to the homeland as nothing else could in those days. When I was in Greek school, our weekly current events assignment always included choosing an article from EK to write about. It wasn’t the easiest Greek to read for a child, but it always helped improve my Greek vocabulary and now my own kids also benefit from it for their own schoolwork.
I wish all the best to the hardworking staff in Long Island City, in Athens, and wherever EK’s correspondents may be. You provide a priceless service to the community, so keep up the good work!
