WHITESTONE – Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Whitestone celebrated the Veneration of the Holy Cross on March 31 with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios and presiding priest of the community Fr. Dionysios Anagnostopoulos as well as Fr. Nick Soteropoulos, Archdeacon Panteleimon Papadopoulos and Deacon Eleftherios Constantine.

The Third Sunday of Great and Holy Lent, the Orthodox Church commemorates the Precious and Life-Giving Cross of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The commemoration reminds us of the Crucifixion. The faithful crowded the church for the celebration.

The Divine Liturgy and the Veneration of the Holy Cross were followed by the community’s annual Fasolada luncheon in the church hall.

Archbishop Demetrios thanked Fr. Anagnostopoulos and all those at Holy Cross Whitestone who every year serve such a fine nistisimo meal. His Eminence also encouraged all those present to attend the upcoming Greek Independence Parade in New York on April 14.
