ATHENS – Aris’ impressive 3-0 victory over Asteras Tripolis in Tripoli seemingly confirmed the rapid rise of the “yellows”. Aris has now secured three consecutive wins in the league-play and, as a result, find themselves sitting in fifth place of the league table which would mean they would qualify for Europa League next season if they can hold on to a top-five finish for the rest of the campaign.
The sudden transformation of Aris’ on-field fortunes is largely due to the winter transfers that the club made which so far, have all turned out good moves.. Argentina’s Martin Tonso makes dictates the tempo as an attacking midfielder in the middle of the pitch playing behind the center forward, French stopper Lindsey Rose has significantly improved the defense, Hungarian Mihály Korhut has been charged with manning the “yellows'” left-back of the defense, while the Swede Daniel Larsson transferred to Aris so that he could cover the gap in the final third of the field left by the injured Bruno Gama.
Last but certainly not least, Aris added Giannis Fetfatzidis who gives significant impetus to the attack and provides many solutions for his new club in the midfield. With these new additions, it is easy to see why Aris FC is optimistic that the team will be able to return to European competitions after an absence of eight years.
The Greek Superleague is in need of Aris, the sleeping giant of Thessaloniki, to be competitive so that the overall play of the league improves.
