ATHENS – After the head of the Hellenic Defense General Staff (GEETHA) Chief Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis said if Turkish forces land on Greek islet they will be flattened, Defense Minister Panos Kammenos repeated a similar threat.

After a squadron of Turkish fighter jets violated Greek airspace – following Apostolakis’ warning – Kammenos said,“If they make the slightest move, we will crush them,” as he visited a military post on the Aegean island of Leros, not far from Turkey’s coast.

“We want peace, we want to live in peace and harmony, but we are not prepared to concede a single centimeter,” Kammenos said. “Those making these provocations had better stick to verbal challenges only,” he said.

He has regularly engaged in swapping threats and warnings with Turkish officials, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and earlier this year dropped a wreath off the rocky disputed islets of Imia where the two countries nearly went to war in 1996.
