Main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed the need to settle private debts to the state in order to give a second chance and reiterated his proposal for debt settlement schemes with up to 120 installments.

Mitsotakis said that the SYRIZA-ANEL government has increased the Greeks’ debt and noted that New Democracy has filed a comprehensive proposal for a simple debt settlement and write-off mechanism, adding that this would give a second chance to freelancers and small and medium-sized enterprises.

He noted that ND has proposed a 120-installment arrangement so that “all citizens who have overdue debts to tax offices and insurance funds can make a new start in their relations with the state.” This mainly concerns Greeks with debt to the state of up to 3,000 euros, that is, four out of five debtors.
