And then, the wind blew and the Fire of 2018 burned on. The fire in a summer resort, a short distance from Athens, resulted in the deaths of dozens of people – the total number still unknown – and revealed in the most painful and vivid manner the extent of the tragic situation in which the country has fallen: from houses built without a permit to a state machine that is not functional.
