The most stunning result for Democrats in the July primaries was the upset victory of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York’s Fourteenth Congressional District. Running her first electoral campaign, the twenty-eight-year-oldCortez, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, handily defeated ten-term incumbentJoe Crowley.Cortez won57% of the vote and Crowley 42%.
