STATEN ISLAND – The 108th Annual Independence Day Parade in Travis on Staten Island took place on July 4th. The celebration, one of the oldest in America, began at noon in front of Public School 26 with ceremonies, speeches, dances, and patriotic songs.

Shortly thereafter, a parade of police, military, fire department, veterans’ clubs, vehicles, local schools and organizations began on Victory Boulevard impressing the thousands of all ages who turned out for the parade to wave flags and celebrate the 4th of July.

Nicole Malliotakis, New York State Assemblymember for Brooklyn and Staten Island, participated yet again in the parade this year and told the National Herald that the 4th of July is America’s biggest celebration of the freedom, faith, and ideals of the country.
