TIRANA (ANA/M. Tzora) – A two-day event promoting Greek wine in Albania opened on Tueday at Tirana, courtesy of the Greek embassy.

Greek Ambassador Eleni Sourani noted in statements at the opening that the “Hellenic Symposium-Wine Tasting” event was also meant to create opportunities for B2B collaborations between the two countries.

Thirteen Greek wineries are participating in this first-ever promotion of Greek wine in Albania, where Italian and French wine dominate the market.

Oenologist Chryssa Giatra spoke on the history of wine production in Greece and explained the Greek varieties of grapes and wines, noting local differences in soil and climate.

Sarantis Moschovis, economic and trade advisor of the Greek embassy in Tirana, told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency that restaurants, large supermarkets and import companies had shown interest in the wines.

On their side, Albanian oenologists and restaurant businesspeople who have lived and worked in Greece in the past said the high quality of Greek wine attracted their interest in promoting it locally.

The event belongs to the GR-EAT program, which introduces selected Greek food and drinks to foreign businesses and consumers abroad. Tuesday’s event includes Greek food and wine tasting open to the public.
