Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris welcomed on Friday the new ferry link between the city of Thessaloniki and the Sporades islands (Skiathos, Skopelos, Skyros, Allonissos), calling it ‘absolutely necessary” and calling for its support, including financially, by the local community and regional authorities.

“We are here to stay” stated Golden Star Ferries shipowner Giorgos Stefanou at a press conference and expessed his desire that the sea route become well established and remain, so it can facilitate travellers and businesses. “It is a huge business risk but we took it because we respected the mayor’s request and also because we want to support growth,” he said.

The Golden Star Ferries’ trimaran “Superspeed” on Friday carried out its virgin run on the new route, which will operate until at least September 9.

The Superspeed is a trimaran that offers a safe and confortable trip, according to Stefanou. The ship will depart at 10:00 every day and will arrive at Skiathos in approximately three hours.

A one-way ticket costs 60 euros, while a return ticket is 108 euros with discounts available for special categories.
