NEW YORK – The Evrytanian Association of America “Panagia Prousiotissa” is preparing for the feast day of its protectress Panagia Prousiotissa. The festive events, as in the previous years, will be celebrated at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Shrine Church in Flushing, where the Evrytanians have the chapel of Panagia Prousiotissa that holds the miraculous icon.

The celebration will begin on Tuesday evening, August 22, with the Vespers, which will be performed by the Archimandrite, Fr. Nektarios Kroutsos, who is from Evrytania. Immediately after the Vespers, a reception will be held in Sarantakos Hall, where the Evritanians and their friends will have the opportunity to enjoy the hospitality and the traditional pies that the ladies of the Association make every year.

The celebration will be completed on, Wednesday, August 23 on the feast day of the Panagia Prousiotissa with the Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Church.

The President of the historic association Eleni Kalogeras and the other leaders of the organization contacted by e-mail and telephone the Evrytanians living in the tri-state area to join them for the events and to commemorate the protectress of the Association and all the Evritanians.

The icon of Panagia Prousiotissa adorns the Church St. Nicholas and is one of the miraculous icons that exist in the Greek diaspora.

The Association is one of the oldest ethnic associations of the New York tri-state area and all the events organized in 2017 celebrate the 105th anniversary of the foundation.

Former President of the Association Demetris Triantafyllis, during his visit to the headquarters of The National Herald in Long Island City, noted that “the celebrations in memory of Panayia Prousiotissa are the most important and the most well-attended of any organized by the Association.”

“At our feast are the members of the great community of St. Nicholas in Flushing, because Evrytanians were among the pioneers who founded the community and benefited it both in person and collectively,” said Triantafyllis recalling the recent donation to the new school complex. One of the halls is also named after the Association.

Triantafyllis pointed out that this year, for the first time in many years, he celebrates the feast day of Panagia Prousiotissa in his birthplace.
