The students of St. Demetrios School in Astoria sang the song Odos Oneiron (Street of Dreams) by Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis to welcome the Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras.

Tsipras spoke to the students noting in particular that knowledge is the greatest asset today. He also said that they should be proud of Greece, not only for the past but for its present. Even as the country tackles the issue of refugees and migrants, Tsipras observed, Greece shows the human face of Europe.

Tsipras was interrupted for several minutes not because of the emotion but because one of the members of the wonderful school choir fainted.

First aid was immediately provided and the girl soon stood up, applauded by those in attendance. The Prime Minister said, “these things happen, everything ok” and hoped the girl would get well soon.

More details to follow.

  1. Several reporters from Greece were unprofessional. The staff of saint demetrios were just beginning to revive the girl who fainted; meanwhile
the reporters were asking the young lady her name, her age, what happened. The reporters did not even allow the school nurse to take appropriate measures.
The reporters were hovering over the staff as they were assisting.

The reporters were unprofessional and looking for another quick headline.
