President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades received on Monday at the Presidential Palace the Cypriot athletes who took part in the 2016 Gymnasiade of the International School Sport Federation (ISF), in Trabzon, Turkey.
The President congratulated the students for their achievements at the Gymnasiade, noting that during the event a coup d`état was attempted in Turkey against President Erdogan.
He noted that despite this development the students remained in Turkey and competed with athletes from more than thirty countries.
“You should all be proud because you made Cyprus proud and that was very important under the given conditions of the coup attempt” Anastasiades told the students.
He also referred to a number of projects related to sports worth 2,5 million euro.
At the end of the event, President Anastasiades awarded honorary plaques to the athletes.
