NICOSIA— In the latest developments in international soccer, APOEL Nicosia won its 25th Cypriot league title on Thursday after beating AEK Larnaca 2-0. The team continues to have the most titles of any Cypriot team.
Pieros Sotiriou scored in the first half and Giannis Gianniotas added another in the second from the penalty spot.
The win put APOEL seven points ahead of second-place AEL with two matches remaining.
APOEL’s fourth straight title comes a week after it fired coach Temur Ketsbaia following a loss in the Cypriot Cup semifinals.
