The German government says Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet French President Francois Hollande in Paris on March 4 to prepare for a European Union summit with Turkey.

Merkel views diplomacy with Turkey as the key to reducing the influx of migrants to European Union member Greece. She is resisting pressure for national restrictions like the cap on incoming refugees imposed by Austria.

EU leaders are to meet Turkey’s prime minister in Brussels on March 7 in an effort to push forward efforts to protect the bloc’s external border.
