Pregnant Mother Killed By Car Outside S.I. Diner; Owner Rushes to Orphans

STATEN ISLAND, NY – A 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis westbound on Staten Island’s Hylan Boulevard struck and killed a pregnant mother of two young daughters just a just after she finished working at a diner in Annadale on October 5.

Shannon Lies, 31, of Connecticut Street in Staten Island’s Tottenville district, worked as a waitress at Mike’s Place, which is owned by Mike Moudatsos.

That National Herald learned that early on Tuesday morning, Moudatsos’ wife visited and brought home cooking to the orphaned children

The driver was a 54-year-old woman who struck Lies in the middle of the block as she approached the intersection at Arden Avenue, according to police.

“A 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling westbound on Hylan Boulevard at the same time the pedestrian was crossing Hylan Boulevard southbound. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Arden Avenue it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing mid-block,” the police statement noted.

“EMS rushed Lies to Staten Island University Hospital, Prince’s Bay, where she was pronounced dead, police said…Co-workers said the crash occurred moments after Lies clocked out of work at 10:58 p.m. and crossed Hylan Boulevard to catch a bus. She was hit few minutes later, at 11:01 p.m., police said,” according to the Staten Island Advance.

Peter Salvatore, a delivery man for the diner, who worked with Lies for two years, told the Advance he had pulled up in front of the diner as she was leaving for the night.

“She walked out, said goodbye to me and walked across the street to catch a bus … and got hit…she was a very nice person,” said Salvatore, who also told the Advance he “immediately rushed to her aid as she lay bleeding and unconscious in the middle of the road, he said. “She was in bad condition,” he said.

Alyssa, aslo a waitress at Mike’s said Lies was proud of two daughters and was expecting to soon give birth to her first son.

“She loved those kids — her life was home and work,” Salvatore said.

“The driver remained at the scene, and no arrests have been made, according to police…The mother was the second pedestrian killed Monday night by a car on Hylan Boulevard,” the Advance reported.
