For those (like me) who are lamenting end of summer, arrival of all, and impending onslaught of…gasp…winter, be of good cheer! At least the weather is brisk enough now to ring in Single Malt Scotch season!

One particularly good companion on a chilly afternoon or evening is Isle of Jura’s heavily-peated version.

For those not in the know, “peated” means, as conscientious observers might say, “tastes like iodine.”  Not that they’ve ever tasted iodine, mind you but it sure does smell like it, at least.

Peated single malt Scotch is an acquired taste and for some purists, there’s nothing like it. Less expensive and slightly airier than its Islay counterparts Ardbeg and Laphroaig, Isle of Jura still packs a punch at over 92 proof.

A single drop of water opens up the flavors and aromas. To be enjoyed with a cigar, sharp, hard cheese, or solo.
