The new parish council members of the Zoodohos Peghe Greek Orthodox Church in the Bronx were sworn in on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010. Pastor V. Rev. Sylvester Berberis wished the new parish council and its president Theodore Germanakos good luck in their new duties. Afterwards, the parish held a procession to City Island, where V. Rev. Sylvester Berberis blessed the waters by throwing the holy cross into the river. Following doctors' recommendations, no one jumped into the river to retrieve the cross due to the freezing temperatures. Parishioners proceeded to a luncheon at the Harbor Restaurant, a Greek American establishment, following the ceremony.
