Elena Kountoura, a member of the Greek Parliament for the Athens A’ district and a member of the new “Anexaertiti Ellines - Independent Greeks” parliamentary alignment, introduced her party and platform to Greek-Americans at the Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn on April 7. The leader of the party, Panos Kammenos, addressed the gathering consisting of the media and members of the community at large by video. He was himself unable to attend due to the imminent announcement of the date for new Greek elections. Kountoura, an articulate and knowledgeable representative of her party – charming too as she is a former fashion model and publishes fashion magazines - had also visited Los Angeles and Chicago. The event, which was billed as a presentation by Kountoura with a question and answer period, was transformed into an open forum at the request of many of the more than 60 guests and was focused on the crisis in Greece.
