The World President of the Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) Stephanos Tamvakis delivered a speech on Wed. Oct. 13, 2010 in Astoria, where he noted that "SAE is going through a transition phase. After 15 years, a new chapter is being opened for Diaspora Greeks, and we, the Hellenes of the Diaspora, must assume our responsibilities." Tamvakis denied all rumors that SAE was going to be disbanded, and noted that the governments of both Greece and Cyprus support the organization and want to see it grow. He also hailed the establishment of a deputy ministerial position for Greek Diaspora matters, led by Dimitris Dollis, as a very positive move - one that SAE has long requested.
