For the first time since suffering a devastating stroke several years ago that left him wheelchair-ridden, Metropolitan Pavlos, head of the Church of Genuine Orthodox Christians in America, which follows the Julian calendar, stood on his feet in front of the altar and blessed the congregation. The touching moment took place during the divine liturgy, as the faithful joined the chanters in singing Metropolitan Pavlos' "pheme," an hymn sung to the presiding bishop praying that God will grant him long life.
