The Pontian Society of Philadelphia "Akrites" organized a memorial service and lecture at St. Sophia Church in Jeffersonville, Penn. to commemorate the anniversary of the Pontian Genocide, on Sunday May 16, 2010. Pastor Rev. Peter Thornberg officiated the memorial service, while Panos Stavrianidis, President of the Hellenic Link of New Jersey and past President of the Pan Pontian Federation of USA and Canada was the keynoted speaker. A wreath was also lain at the Pontian Genocide memorial outside the church - the only one of its kind in the entire United States.
