Hugues Francois of Cliffside Park, accused of murdering his live-in girlfriend Thalia Stathis and dumping her body on a Long Island parkway, went to trial on May 4, 2010. Thalia Stathis, 28, was last seen in September 2007 at the end of her table-waiting shift at the Arena Diner in Hackensack, according to police. Colleagues reported her missing shortly afterward. Investigators charged Francois with murder even though they did not find Stathis' body. A New York state trooper later found a decomposing body on a shoulder of the Southern State Parkway in North Merrick on Long Island. The body was identified as Stathis'. Jury selection will began on May 4 in Superior Court in Hackensack. Francois faces up to life in prison if convicted.
