Celebrations for the annual Chicago Greek Parade on Sun. April 25, kicked off on Friday at noon April 23 with a flag ceremony at Daley Plaza, outside of Chicago City Hall. Over one-hundred officials and constituents of the Federation of Hellenic American Organizations of Illinois "Enosis" - the parade organizing body - were in attendance, including Enosis President Demetrios Georgakopoulos. The students from the local area Greek schools who came out to attend the event added to the feeling and fervor. Students from the St. Demetrios School in Elmhurst, Ill. sung the Greek national anthem, and received an ovation from the crowd. Students from the Plato School were also on hand, along with the dance troupes of the Pontian, Cretan, and "Dionysos," societies, which presented traditional folk dances from all over Greece.
