Nicholas Kiriakakis, a 25-year-old Queens restaurant/lounge owner, was released on bail on Friday following charges of double homicide and one count of criminal possession of a handgun. Bail was set at $2 million.
Kiriakakis pleaded not guilty on Monday, and is now back home in Queens planning his defense.
Elias Fillas, one of his lawyers, told The National Herald that Kiriakakis paid a $200,000 premium, and was released under very liberal terms.
"[Kiriakakis] is not under house arrest; he is only required to be home six hours of the day," Fillas said, adding that he considers the decision the first success in his client's defense, following Friday's bail reduction hearing.
Kiriakis maintains his innocence, and his lawyers Elias Fillas, Tony Sacco, and Samuel DiMeglio, Jr. told TNH that there is no conclusive evidence to implicate him.
