The Greek American Community of the New York metropolitan area mourned the passing of Takis Nikolopoulos, who was laid to rest on Feb. 12, 2010. The late Mr. Nikolopoulos - referred to fondly as "Greek America's Kolokotronis" was buried in his traditional Greek evzone outfit - which he would wear at every Greek Independence Day Parade on Fifth Ave., together with his horse and sword, conjuring memories of Greek Revolutionary War hero Theodoros Kolokotronis. Funeral services were held at Zoodohos Peghe Church in the Bronx, NY.
