The Amorgos Society held a Carnival celebration at its headquarters at 26-03 23 Ave. in Astoria, NY on Sunday Feb. 7, 2010. They also welcomed the former Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Athens and close aide to the late Archbishop Christodoulos Rev. Thomas Synodinos, and thanked him for his numerous initiatives on behalf of their island. President Nikos Gavalas congratulated the chefs Michael Sigalas, George Manolas, and George Bournias for the evening's meal. He also characterized Rev. Synodinos a "major patriot." Rev. Synodinos, who was in the U.S. visiting Washington, DC and New York, called his trip unforgettable because "the work that Greek Americans have done is everywhere," and illustrates their love for the Greek homeland.
